FLETC recognizes students with special awards for demonstration of exceptional performance of the knowledge and skills required in Basic Training Programs, Center Integrated Basic Training Programs, and the Firearms Instructor Training Program. 

Student graduating from Basic and Center Integrated Training Program compete for the following awards: 

  • Academic Award
  • Highest Academic Award
  • Director’s Leadership Award
  • Driver Awards
  • Firearms Expert
  • Firearms Distinguished Expert 
  • Firearms Sharpshooter
  • Distinguished Fitness Award
  • Fitness Award
  • Honor Graduate 

Students graduating from the Firearms Instructor Training program complete for the following awards:

  • Firearms Expert
  • Firearms Distinguished Expert 
  • Firearms Sharpshooter
  • Distinguished Weapons Expert Award

Student Awards Qualifications

  • Basic and Center Integrated Basic Training Programs
  • Awarded to students that graduate with:  
    • Academic Average of 95% or above.
    • Firearms Qualification of 285 or higher.
    • Score in the 90th percentile on the PEB
    • No PE or Exam remediation

At the end of the year, the Honor Graduate with the highest GPA is the Honor Graduate of the Year.

Note: Distinguished Graduate is used if there’s two Honor Graduates and that title goes to the highest academic average winner.

  • Basic and Center Integrated Basic Training Programs
  • Presented to the students who achieve a 95% or higher academic average. 
  • Highest Academic Award - Awarded to the students that with the highest academic average in the class. A student whose performance in a PE required remedial training is eligible for this award but will not be considered for the Honor Graduate of the Year Award, Honor Graduate Award, or Distinguished Graduate Award.

  • Basic and Center Integrated Basic Training Programs
  • Selected by classmates as the person who most embodies the characteristics of a law enforcement leader. The student exhibits the following behavior while in basic training: positively influences others; serves as a role model; is responsible to themselves and others; is a problem-solver; exemplifies excellence; does more than expected; cares about fellow classmates; puts others first and is team-oriented; inspires goodwill and enthusiasm; and is loyal, helpful, respectful, thoughtful, and ethical.

  • Basic and Center Integrated Basic Training Programs
  • Awarded to students who achieve the maximum attainable points (100 points for each) in of the Driving Practical Exercises. 

  • Basic, Center Integrated Basic, and Firearms Instructor Training Programs
  • A Distinguished Expert Award is presented to CB, CIB, and FITP students who achieve a perfect score (100%) in the program qualifying course of fire. 

  • Basic, Center Integrated Basic, and Firearms Instructor Training Programs
  • An Expert Award is presented to CB, CIB, and FITP students who achieve a score of 95% to 99.9% in the program qualifying course of fire. 

  • Basic, Center Integrated Basic, and Firearms Instructor Training Programs
  • Awarded to students who achieve a score of 85% to 94.9% in the program qualifying course of fire. 

  • Basic, Center Integrated Basic, and Firearms Instructor Training Programs
  • Awarded to all students achieving a score of the 75th percentile in each of the four primary categories of the FLETC Physical Efficiency Battery. This does not include body composition. The percentile scores are based upon gender and five-year age grouping. 

  • Basic and Center Integrated Basic Training Programs
  • Awarded to all students performing at the 90th percentile in each the four primary categories of the Physical Efficiency Battery, with the exception of the body composition event. The percentile scores are based upon gender and five-year age grouping. 

  • Firearms Instructor Training Program
  • Presented to students who achieve a score of 665 or higher in combined firearms qualification consisting of: 
    • Semi-Auto Pistol Course of Fire (300 possible score)
    • Shotgun Course of Fire (100 possible score)
    • Rifle Course of Fire (300 possible score)
