Description
The Internet Investigations Training Program (IITP) is designed to give investigators, analysts, and individuals serving as direct law enforcement support a basic understanding of and the skills needed to conduct Internet-based investigations.
Investigating Internet crimes can be one of the most complex tasks facing the law enforcement professional today. It requires a multidisciplinary approach, supported by technical expertise to a degree not commonly seen with traditional crime.
IITP will enable the student to develop the skills necessary to investigate Internet-based crimes in a legally accepted manner, while utilizing open-source and proprietary tools. Emphasis is placed on the examination and collection of data from social-media, OSINT and the “Dark Web”. Students will be issued an investigative laptop computer with various hardware and software materials used in the training program. The students will be instructed how to properly configure their investigative computer and how to setup investigative profiles and personas. Software will include virtualization, operating system and collection tools. Students will perform various practical exercises to reinforce skills learned during the course. The graduate will leave with all of the equipment and software utilized during the program and will be able to conduct Internet-based investigations upon their return.
Prerequisites
- Applicants should be investigators, intelligence analysts, intelligence specialists, or individuals serving as direct law enforcement support personnel, from the federal, state and local law enforcement community who are tasked with Internet-based investigations.
- Students should possess a working knowledge of computers, and the desire to load programs, utilize virtualization and various web browsers as well as install operating systems.
