FLETC Signs Memorandum of Agreement with Australian Institute of Police Management

For Immediate Release

On September 23, 2022, Thomas J. Walters, Director of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC), and Stuart Bartels, Executive Director of Australian Institute of Police Management (AIPM), signed a Memorandum of Agreement to collaborate as training partners in professional exchanges. FLETC and AIPM will mutually benefit from knowledge-based sharing, exchanging best practices, consortiums, symposiums, joint projects, research and development, and staff exchanges to advance law enforcement and leadership training.

“FLETC and AIPM have an established history. Since 2011, AIPM and FLETC worked together on numerous important initiatives. AIPM hosted FLETC staff in their visiting fellow's program and AIPM staff participated in FLETC’s supervisor leadership training program. AIPM was a vital partner in co-facilitating the inaugural Crisis Leadership Seminar, which FLETC and the Singapore Home Team Academy jointly delivered in 2018,” said FLETC Director Walters. “The renewal of this MOA could not be timelier as we continue to work together on several leadership training initiatives.”

FLETC offers fully reimbursable training programs to law enforcement partners worldwide by working through respective United States Embassies to coordinate participation. Australia has sent officers to FLETC training including in-person and online training courses throughout the years.

“Law enforcement has never been more challenging than it is today.  The signing of this MOA demonstrates an understanding that, in the face of that challenge, we are better together.  FLETC and the AIPM are already working on a number of exciting collaborations, born from our shared commitment to the training and development of those on the frontline.  This MOA further solidifies that commitment.”

A component of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, FLETC provides career-long training to law enforcement professionals to help them fulfill their responsibilities safely and proficiently. Through strategic partnerships, FLETC prepares the federal law enforcement community to safeguard the American people, property, and institutions.
