How can I prepare myself before arriving at the FLETC?

Be ready mentally and physically for a very comprehensive training program both in the classroom and during underway exercises.

Students must be in good physical condition, capable of meeting established FLETC Physical Performance Requirements (PPRs) while enduring long periods of strenuous underway boat operations.

On the first day of all programs, you will be requested to fill out a health screening questionnaire.  Pulse and blood pressure will also be monitored. If you have any condition or injury that you think might be questioned by the Health Unit officials, please bring a statement from your physician giving you clearance to participate in the training. Otherwise, you may not be allowed to attend the program.

The Marine Law Enforcement Training Program (MLETP) will provide you with about 90% of all subjects necessary to test for a U. S. Coast Guard (U.S.C.G.) license (Operator Uninspected Passenger Vessel [OUPV] or higher). If you are interested in pursuing this license, during the third week (Saturday and Sunday), there will be a contractor available to administer the USCG exam for OUPV. The cost is $395.00 paid by the student. Otherwise, it is recommended that you contact your local U.S.C.G. Regional Exam Center (REC) prior to attending the program and schedule an examination date as soon after the program as possible.
