Tactics For Flying Armed Training Program (TFATP)
Up one levelThe Tactics for Flying Armed Training Program (TFATP) is a 24 hour program. The course is designed to enhance the federal agent's or officer's tactics, skills and knowledge needed to handle a range of situations they may encounter while flying armed. The course is a combination of lecture and hands on application. The students will be exposed to defensive tactics and arrest techniques in a close quarters environment. Students will use non-lethal training ammunition in both interactive and dynamic training. These drills include multiple suspect engagement, judgment shooting, and moving and shooting drills. Students will also participate in use of force transition drills that incorporate and combine defensive tactics, arrest techniques and firearms training.

Instructors
The instructors in this program are current and former federal, state and local law enforcement personnel with substantial experience in the area of law enforcement tactics aboard an aircraft. All instructors have graduated from the Tactics for Flying Armed Training Program and currently conduct and coordinate law enforcement related training to both basic and advanced students at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. Many of the instructors hold advanced degrees and certifications in the area of law enforcement close quarters tactics on board an aircraft. Many of the instructors are former operational Federal Air Marshals and instructed at the Federal Air Marshals Training Center.
Prerequisites for Attendance
- Currently employed as a sworn Law Enforcement Officer and be recommended by your agency.
- Attend and successfully complete all components of the training. Late arrivals and early dismissal are not permitted.
- Must be able to participate in Intensive Training lasting up to 10 hours per day and not have any medical restrictions.
- Participate and pass all scenario based training.
- Meet all requirement of the Practical Exercise Performance Requirement for this program. These are numbers 1, 3, 5c, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 23, 24, 30, 31, and 32.
- Pre-registration is required.
