Student Policies and Procedures
While attending the ILEA, LA, participants must be willing to abide by the rules and regulations of their own agencies and departments as they apply to conduct, and the policies and procedures established by ILEA, SS.
I. Participation
The participant agrees to remain in law enforcement or a related field or position for a minimum of three (3) years after completing the ILEA, SS core program.
The participant certifies that any training material, information, handouts, video recordings, documents, and/or manuals issued during the course will be used for law enforcement purposes only. No copies or reproductions of these materials will be made without the prior approval of the issuing agency.
While attending any ILEA SS or LA program, participants are required to attend all classes and be on time.
Participants agree to advise the class coordinator of any scheduling conflicts as soon as the participant becomes aware of such a conflict. This includes illness, personal, agency or family business.
Participants are expected to attend all classes and are required to attend a minimum of 95% of the scheduled classes. Failure to meet these requirements will be addressed by appropriate ILEA executive staff and the participant may be notified in writing of the termination of their participation.
II. Class Etiquette
Participants will be properly attired while in class. Proper attire includes the ILEA issued polo shirt and any other ILEA issued clothing. When pants are not issued, long pants for the men or women, conservative skirts for women are considered proper. No blue jeans and shorts are to be permitted. No tennis shoes, athletic shoes or open toed shoes are to be permitted.
Use of tobacco products in the classroom is prohibited. It is permissible to drink water in the classroom. No other beverages or food items are to be consumed in the classroom.
No books, magazines, newspapers or any material not provided by the instructor is to be read during a presentation or when the class is engaged in group exercises.
Participants are to refrain from having conversations with fellow participants while an instructor is speaking or a fellow participant is making a presentation or asking question.
All cell phones, pagers, PDA’s, blackberries, blueberries or any other electronic communication devices will be turned off during class time or place it under vibration mode. All such communication should take place before or after class or while the class is on break.
III. Class Coordinator
The class coordinator is assigned to the program to attend to participant needs. The class coordinator is the liaison between the participants and the academy staff. The class coordinator will be housed in close proximity to the participants so as to be available 24 hours a day. Thus, the class coordinator will be available to assist with illnesses or other emergencies.IV. Health Concerns
While attending ILEA, SS classes, the participant’s health is of primary concern. The participants are to immediately notify the class coordinator of any illness, accident or injury. ILEA will assist the participant with any medical attention that is required. THE PARTICIPANTS ARE RESPONSIBLE TO HAVE A MEDICAL INSURANCE COVERAGE WHILE ATTENDING AN ILEA PROGRAM. If the participant’s illness or injury is from a pre-existing condition, ILEA will be responsible for the medical care necessary to stabilize the condition and safely return the participant to his/her home country.
V. Crime
It is the responsibility of the ILEA participant to immediately notify the class coordinator or and ILEA staff of any situation or incident that requires official contact with or intervention by the police or security personnel.
In the event a participant becomes the victim of a crime, it is requested that the ILEA class coordinator be notified immediately. ILEA staff will assist with completion of any required police reports.
If it becomes apparent that a participant is suspected of criminal activity by the police or security personnel, the participant will be immediately suspended from participation in the class. ILEA executive staff will make a determination based on available facts before taking final action regarding the participant’s continuation in the program.
VI. Emergency Notification
In the event a participant is injured, ILEA will, with the consent of the participant, notify the participant’s agency. If the participant experiences a family emergency that requires a trip home, the participant is to notify ILEA staff prior to leaving for home. Any trip home prior to the end of the program will be at the participant’s own expense. The ILEA only provides one round-trip ticket per student, per course.
VII. Religious Concerns
With respect to religious practices, ILEA will attempt to provide appropriate food for all participants. Participants are responsible for transportation to and from religious services and must provide their own religious materials and needs.
VIII. Computer Use
Computers for participant use are limited and will be scheduled by the class coordinator. Participants are not to change passwords, install software, download programs, or access inappropriate websites on the Internet. Participants are not to use the computer in the ILEA office.
