Are there prerequisites for training programs?
All international applicants must be at least 85% proficient in English (oral and written communication and reading comprehension). Some training programs have particular prerequisites for the respectivet program and must be addressed prior to attending the training. All prerequisites are listed on the FLETCCatalog of Training Programs for each specific program. The training catalog can be located on the internet at www.fletc.gov.
Are interpreters provided if needed?
No. Interpreters are not allowed to accompany students in training classes.
Can I attend a FLETC program if I am not law enforcement?
The FLETC is authorized to train international law enforcement officials or international officials affiliated with law enforcement on a space-available basis with reimbursement of actual costs.
What is included in the cost of the training program held at a FLETC facility?
Program costs include tuition, lodging, and meals and are estimated before the program begins. If meals and lodging are not provided, it will be annotated in the estimate. Lodging costs may vary depending on where the student is housed. Costs are estimated at the highest rate; therefore, your final cost may be lower. In programs scheduled for more than a week, the middle weekend meals and lodging costs are included if meals are provided. If a program is conducted off center or at a FLETC site, that does not have dormitories or cafeterias, meals and lodging are the responsibility of the attendee and will not be included in the estimated program cost.
How do you pay for FLETC training?
All international applicants must complete the FLETC form “FTC-SEM-17b-3 Foreign National Request for Access: Financial Reimbursement Information” form. This form must be submitted to the FLETC ICBB 30 days prior to the start of training. The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center will charge for the actual cost of training within 60 days after the training program is completed.
Can I make my own lodging arrangements?
All lodging arrangements are made by the FLETC Student Services Division and are included in the cost of training for programs being held at Glynco, Artesia and Charleston. For programs held at Cheltenham facility or other export sites the attendee is responsible for arranging and paying for their lodging. If FLETC has lodging facilities the student must stay in the facility provided and will be charged for the lodging.
Are meals provided?
Meals are provided at FLETC training facilities located at Glynco, Charleston,; and Artesia, facilities. Programs held at the Cheltenham, facility or other export sites the attendee is responsible for arranging and paying for their meals.
When will I know if I am confirmed for a program?
All international applicants requesting to attend FLETC programs must mail to the ICBB all original required documents. Once documents are received, ICBB vets the ICBB applicant, through the DHS Foreign Access Management System (DFAMS). Once DFAS approves the applicant, an acceptance letter is sent by email to the applicant stating their approval to attend the training. Applicants are advised to ensure they receive an approval letter before making travel arrangements.
Could a training program be cancelled?
Typically, programs are confirmed 30 days prior to the start date of the program. However, programs may cancel as late as two weeks prior to the program start date if a minimum number of students are not registered.
If I need to cancel, what do I do?
If for any reason an applicant cannot attend the program, FLETC’s policy requires that International ICBB be notified in writing 20 days prior to the start of the class. Cancellation is received less than 20 days before the start date of the training, it may result in program costs, in full or partial, being billed regardless of attendance.
Is money available to assist international applicants for program fees?
International applicants training costs are on a reimbursement basis and the responsibility of the applicant.
Are there other FLETC training locations?
Yes. FLETC has training facilities in Glynco, Georgia; Artesia, New Mexico; Charleston, South Carolina, and Cheltenham, Maryland. ICBB is the liaison over all international training, to include international students attending all FLETC facility.
