Up one level Vehicle Accident Investigations Training Program (VAITP)

The Vehicle Accident Investigation Training Program (VAITP) is a concise study of the basic investigative techniques and related tools/equipment required of the accident investigator.  Students are taught to make and record accurate measurements and use the traffic template to make precise scale diagrams.  Classroom instruction, laboratories, and practical exercises are used during this training.  At the conclusion of the training, students should have achieved levels of competency that will enable them to complete a successful motor vehicle accident investigation.

FAQs

What clothes or equipment should I bring to the program?

Casual attire is recommended to be worn during this program.  Bring appropriate clothes for the climatic time of the year. 

If you plan to use the gym or weight room facilities while at the FLETC you need only bring appropriate sport shoes.  Gym clothes are provided.

All classroom materials will be furnished by the Center.   The following items should be considered for outdoor use:

    • Sunglasses
    • Sunscreen
    • Bug Spray

What climatic conditions should I expect?

The climate at the FLETC is relatively mild year-round with a mean temperature of 68 degrees. Temperatures may reach the mid 90's during the summer months, and down to the 20's in the winter months (January and February). Humidity is high year-round.

Do I need to be proficient in math to complete this program?

Approximately 5 situations involving speed estimates will be covered.  These situations can be solved with a knowledge of basic algebra or by associated mechanical processes such as the use of templates and/or charts, which are also taught.
