Our Mission

The Rural Policing Institute (RPI) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) develops and delivers tuition-free, specialized and advanced training to city, county, campus, and tribal law enforcement officers, and to other emergency responders located in rural areas.

These training programs are offered at FLETC facilities and are also exported to sites throughout the United States.

Prerequisites for Attendance

This training program is open to qualified/full-time, city, campus, county, state, and tribal law enforcement officers who work in “rural areas”, defined as areas that are not located in metropolitan statistical areas, as defined by the Office of Management and Budget (www.whitehouse.gov/omb/bulletins/fy2009/09-01.pdf).

Tuition and Cost

• Tuition is free for qualified applicants.
• Lodging and meals will be provided free for training programs conducted at the FLETC in Artesia, NM; Charleston, SC; and Glynco, GA, for those participants who live more than 50 miles from the training site.
• Free lodging may be available at other training venues. Availability of free lodging will be included in confirmation notices.
• The RPI will not fund travel expenses.
