FLETC Firearms Division Completes Tactical Threat Engagement in the CITP Pilot Program

Glynco, GA Oct 23, 2006

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Firearms Division (FAD) introduced Tactical Threat Engagement (TTE) training to law enforcement officers enrolled in the Pilot Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP) this September.  The Uniformed Police Training Program (UPTP) added this course to its curriculum as well.

A FLETC team led by Senior Instructor Darrell Walker developed the Tactical Threat Engagement course.  Other members of the team were Doug Morgan, Senior Instructor, FAD; Terry Little, Program Specialist, FAD; Tonya Lopez, Senior Training Research Analyst, TMD; and Jack Rinnier, Branch Chief, FAD.

TTE prepares future Federal Agents to engage a multitude of assailants during a live-fire exercise.  During this realistic training, students learn weapon-handling fundamentals and marksmanship, while facing threats on several fronts.  TTE focuses on tactical movements, movement with problem solving, multiple threats, off-line, forward, and backward movement; all while firing a weapon.  Students also learn to deal with a malfunctioning weapon during the course of firing.  This course is in the program following Basic Marksmanship Instruction and the FLETC Practical Pistol Course (PPC).

Senior Instructor Walker stated, “Our objective is to incorporate movement and multiple threat engagement, while problem solving.  This is a realistic weapons handling opportunity for the basic student.  We also hope to set the foundation for future advance training that the law enforcement officers will receive from either FLETC or their employing agency.”
