FLETC celebrates National Disability Employment Awareness Month

Glynco, GA Nov 07, 2006

The FLETC celebrated National Disability Employment Awareness Month by hosting a luncheon for FLETC team members, its Partner Organizations, and local community members.  Approximately 70 people attended the buffet lunch at the FLETC Student Center.

This year’s theme was “Americans with Disabilities: Ready for the Global Workforce.”  The EEO Office and MSD presented a video about several of our employees who have overcome their disabilities to flourish at the center.

The key note speaker was Dr. W. Roy Grizzard, Jr., Ed.D., Assistant Secretary for Disability Employment Policy, U.S. Department of Labor.  Dr. Grizzard gave an inspiring speech on the contributions of disabled employees, including his own story of triumph.  He also explained the programs that are available to both the employees and their employers from the federal government.  Attendees gave the esteemed speaker a standing ovation.

The event ended with FLETC Director Connie Patrick presenting Dr. Grizzard with a plaque for his participation.
